Kebabs

Makes 6 Kebabs | Serves 4-6

Directions:

1 pound ground beef

½ cup finely diced onion (about ½ medium onion)

1 package Global Cuisine Kebab Seasoning

2 tablespoons olive oil

Add oil and seasoning package to a medium bowl and mix until fully incorporated. Mix in ground beef until seasoning mix is fully absorbed. Let stand for 10 minutes.

Split into 6 equal portions and form into logs, balls or patties. Place kebabs on a rack or foil placed on a baking sheet. Broil with rack in center position of oven for 8 minutes on each side or BBQ at medium heat for 4-5 minutes on each side. Adjust time by 2 minutes less for patties or by 2 minutes more for well-done.

Serve in flat bread, pita or with rice. Garnish with freshly diced tomatoes, hummus or chopped cilantro. Great with Global Cuisine Lemon Rice Pilaf.

For an authentic and quick week day meal, use the seasoning as directed. If you have more time, here are some great ways to make your kebabs even better!

Additional ingredients

Add a half cup or more of freshly chopped cilantro to the mix before cooking.

For spicier kebabs, add a 1/2 teaspoon or more of cayenne pepper.

Replace ground beef with diced or ground chicken, lamb or turkey.

Cooking ideas

Use metal skewers and wrap your kebabs on the skewers before barbequing. If you have wooden skewers, soak them for 10 minutes first.

Place kebab patties on top of mixed vegetables and rice in a tagine and cook for 30 to 40 minutes.

In the Middle East, kebabs are traditionally served in a rolled flatbread, inside a pita bread or with rice.

When serving the kebabs in a rolled in flatbread or in pita bread, include hummus, tahini, Amba and a mix of diced lettuce, tomato and cucumber. Spread a thin layer of hummus, then the kebabs, top with the mixed vegetables and drizzle the tahini and Amba over the top. Make sure you keep extra tahini and Amba close by!
